The physician in community social pediatrics provides care to the child in a holistic approach to health, in co-intervention with

an inter-professional and inter-sectoral team. He/she intervenes in the environment with children, and families in situations of vulnerability, in order to ensure the well-being and the optimal development of children, in the respect of their rights and their interests. He/she will focus on the needs of the child, on his or her strengths and on those of the family and the community.

He/she participates in major societal issues affecting the health and well-being of children.




  • Understand the main problems generated by the social determinants of health and the effects of toxic stress on child
  • Address the main health problems of the child (functional, attachment, adaptation, developmental, learning and behavioral disorders) by focusing on:
    • Attachment link;
    • Resilience capacity;
    • The construction of the child’s identity;
    • The power to act (« empowerment ») of the child and the family; o Pa rents’ knowledge of their child’s development ;
    • The safety net and support system surrounding the child; o Other resources for their child’s health and well-being.
  • Support the overall state of health of children (full history, medico-social and developmental histories, neuro-developmental examination) and assess the physical, social and mental developmental state in a synthetic
  • Know the APCA method (« Apprivoisement, Partage, Compréhension, Action ») specific to community social
  • Integrating the concepts of prevention promotion of health to childcare and intervene in proximity and in connection with its natural
  • Offer a warm support through a privileged and continuous relationship of
  • Act with expertise and knowledge adapted to the practice of community social


  • Work closely with an inter-professional team within the community social pediatrics center and in partnership with the family, social and institutional networks.
  • Promote consensual decision-making through the co-construction of hypotheses and solution avenues, to build an integrated response plan, tailored to the needs of each
  • Develop partnerships and complicity that aim to support the well-being and health of the
  • Establish inter-professional linkages with other organizations that act on the needs of children in vulnerable



  • Communicate effectively with children and families in vulnerable situations by demonstrating a non-judgmental attitude and sensitivity towards their
  • Respect diversity to establish meaningful links with children and
  • Enhance active participation, open discussion and decision sharing, and foster a collaborative and mediation approach.
  • Be engaged in the activities of the community social pediatrics center and the neighborhood on a daily basis and maintain close ties with the children, families and professionals of the neighborhood


  • Play the role of protector of children’s rights and the role of promoter of children’s well-being and
  • Take a proactive approach to educating parents, educators, health professionals, politicians and other stakeholders on the effects of toxic stress and the potential benefits of preventing or reducing their sources for the children in our
  • Mobilize and support the community’s networks and other resources on the determinants of health at the institutional and political


  • Act as a clinical reference for children’s diagnostics by providing expert advice to the team surrounding the
  • Accompany the development of the child by guiding and advising the family towards adequate resources, adapted to the needs of the



  • Provide occasional clinical supervision to medical
  • Participate and collaborate in meetings and orientation activities that promote the updating and exchange of knowledge among
  • Keep informed of scientific advances for the development and well-being of the child and ensure the transmission and appropriation of this knowledge within the team.



  • Work on an egalitarian co-intervention approach within a professional
  • Be able to take calculated risks to advance the child’s

  • Doctorate in medicine from a recognized faculty of
  • To be a member in good standing of the College of physicians of Quebec and to own a valid provincial permit of
  • Experience of the realities of disadvantaged backgrounds and other relevant experience related to practice in the middle of



  • Knowledge of the eco-bio-developmental health care mode!
